Led Zeppelin Clones

I've always thought that The White Stripes sounded a lot like Led Zepplin.

But i was blown away when my daughter Jessica played the new hit single from Jet, Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

If she had told me it was Led Zepplin, i would have believed it.

We really are stuck in the 70s.

Funny, when I heard "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," I thought it was the White Stripes!

I hate the White Stripes (see my post about The Firey Furnaces on my cult.crit. blog DIY).

Actually I don't so much here Zepplin in the White Stripes as I hear "Paranoia"-styled up tempo Sabbath, only without the humor.

Sorry but from what i have heard of Jet, I would never confuse them with Led Zeppelin. The White Stripes are an excellent band though. Real nitty gritty rock. The drummer Meg White is most definitily influenced by John Bonham of Led and does it very well. If you want to hear a band influenced heavily by many classic rock bands, it would be Tin Machine fronted by David Bowie off their first album. It is a phenominal album even tho I would go as far as to say they ripped off a lot of riffs from the likes of Sabbath and others. Most excellent.

Led Zeppelin and the white stripes are my two fav bands in the world and there is a slight resemblence in their music and that is both of the bands songs fukn rock and i love them

Led Zeppelin stole most of the songs from less know artists without crediting the writers. Later after several lawsuits by folk and blues artists, Led Zeppelin had to change the credits to many songs and they gave up the rights to there catalog to the record lable to avoid any more legel problems. Sure a lot of bands sound like Zeppelin. They stole from the best and were a great cover band but didn't pay the original artists. Stairway To Heaven is a SPIRIT song. The list goes on...

"Bring It on Home" is a cover of Sonny Boy Williamson's and drew comparisons with Dixon's "Bring It on Back". "Whole Lotta Love" shared a line with Dixon's "You Need Love/Woman You Need Love". In the 1970s, Arc Music, the publishing arm of Chess Records, brought a lawsuit against Led Zeppelin for copyright infringement over "Bring It on Home" and won an out-of-court settlement.[29] Dixon himself did not benefit until he sued Arc Music to recover his royalties and copyrights. Years later, Dixon filed suit against Led Zeppelin over "Whole Lotta Love" and a large out-of-court settlement was reached. Later pressings of Led Zeppelin II credit Dixon.
Page was once quoted in an interview as saying: "...We tried to be the sons of Howlin' Wolf." A version of Howlin' Wolf's song "Killing Floor" which was featured prominently in Led Zeppelin's early live performances, also found its way onto Led Zeppelin II in a different arrangement, entitled "The Lemon Song".
