Cable's Killer App
I was reading Rafat Ali today and his post on AOL's MyMC cable channel got me thinking about a killer app for cable operators.
I use Music Choice on my DirecTV service all the time. I have the reciever connected directly into my multi-room audio system so I can play MusicChoice in any room that has audio. The various channels are pretty good. I personally like Channel 820 on my service which is the Progressive/Adult Alternative channel (Music Choice channel 10). I can also see song/artist/title information scroll across my TV screen which is a nice feature.
I thought I was one of the few people who actually used this service. But yesterday i was at my friends Steve and Vanessa's apartment and they were playing Music Choice on their Time Warner digital cable service. They were listening to the Country music channel.
Then today, my wife Joanne, The Gotham Gal, told me how much she likes the Rhapsody service i installed on her computer over the weekend. She is really digging the new Morrissey disc.
So it wasn't too surprising that it hit me reading Rafat's post. The killer app for cable operators is a Rhapsody like service delivered over cable like Music Choice is. Why doesn't that exist?

I think its simple why not. No 'right' one person, or people. to date has really made digital access to media simple and no one makes content for the people any more -- period.
Everybody whom i understand in the media marketplace sure has some whacky outlooks on what there product actually 'give' to their buyers.
No one VC has made the commitment renegades like myself require to expose "underground" digtial media and give it the respect it deserves as a better then TV solution to more then just simple communication, but global day2day (d2d) living.
No one investor has ever grasped the ideals my commarades and I have set forth to sell under their noses. From hardware to software ideas normal folks are having right now in blogs like this, that echo how the past is once agian speaking, but now from the street -- and the normal folks -- not us geek developers talking of a wounderful and blue sky culture.
The fact that most are afraid of micro-transactions and have a cost of new customer aquistion that equals a nice steak dinner for two, sure doesn't minamize returns and doesn't help either.
You really have to go big or go home when you are a media giant -- and right now i think everybody in media past and present is asleep, and the suits have wore suits too long.
Micro markets are healthier then any group of macro's that any "agency" can provide to you in a trasitional sponser matrix.
Ok, i'm complaning here -- but i have been building and hunting in the digital media entertainment sphere for 8 years, and only now, like these past two months is video getting the respect on the internet it deserves -- too bad there is so many different bad choices to invest in.
I introduce a change.
