Digital Photography

I love photos. I'd put more of them on my blog if i could. I just don't have my digital camera with me as much as I'd like.

We have two digital cameras in our house. We have a small Canon Digtal Elph which is my digital camera. It doesn't take great pictures, but i am not a great photographer. I just like taking photos. It works fine for that.

We also have a Nikon D70. This is the Gotham Gal's camera. It's a real camera and she takes great photos with it. I wish she'd post some of them on her blog!

I think the small digital camera, like mine, is toast. Why? Because what I want is a small form factor and convenience. I want my digital camera with me all the time. Right now, that's not happening. On my next phone, it will. This Reuters article is talking about a 3.2 megapixel camera phone coming onto the market in June.

When I get my new phone, you'll see a lot more photos here on my blog. And that's a good thing.

I have to disagree at least for now... Until Phones can reliably reproduce multi-megapixel shots with zoom, they won't do more than replace simple snaps.

The Elph as well as it's canon siblings are nice cameras if you go for the 4 or 5 MP models. Nikon now has a 4 and 5 MP pocket camera as well... I've been enjoying the Nikon 5200 and it fits into a pants pocket or bag and is quite simple to have anytime you want and enables great shooting.

The Sony DSC-T1 is also a very small pocket cam with a 5MP capability.

Certainly, none of these compare to the D70 or Canon Rebel, but they all do a job and in my humble opinion do it well.

My phone cam and most shots I've seen from current models do not compare today and won't most likely for at least a year... if not longer. That Casio Camphone with KDDI is Japan only for now...

We've got Picasa working with blogger.com to make it easy to put digital pix up. I've had the Exilim 3MP and switched recently to the Sony T-1 5Mpixel. They're both small enough to always be in my pocket, and easy enough to quickly post.

And you should try Flickr! You can post to your site directly from any photo, it's online, and it's free. But the coolest features are Notes and Tags. You can annotate your photos and tell a story of what's going on. Check it out here: Stargate on my lawn and an Argentine family. The tags to the right of the photo make it simple to find things later, which, as your photos multiply becomes more and more difficult. :)

I don't have a camera phone (yet) but a good friend does and he told me the coolest thing about it is not the ability to take snaps, but that you always have it with you to show your favorite pics to friends. It replaces the photos-in-the-wallet that most people carry.
