The Streets (Continued)

Max commented in my original post on The Streets. He said, "i like the first cd, original pirate material, a lot more. better melodies. better stories. have you listened to it?"

Well I hadn't.

But I went straight to Amazon and got Original Pirate Material.

Max is right that the melodies are better. I don't know if I like Original Pirate Material better than A Grand Don't Come For Free. But its great and I know its going to be on my iPod a lot in the next couple weeks.

Standard rule; the first album is usually better because you have your whole life to write it. Number two is usually rushed or forced in some way. I think Mike did a good job on number two considering the rule.

hmmmmm ive had this debate with my house mates.... And i prefer "Grand" over their first album...

A Grand is better as a whole body of work - I can barely listen to the thing out of order or incomplete (Fit But You Know It aside)

Original Pirate Material has better songs, as singles. "Let's Push Things Forward" is totally amazing - and sums up the current state of 'popular' music to boot - yee haw!

I have just returned from Leeds festival where The Streets played a brilliant, yet short set. On which album is better...... i just cant decide! Your fit and you know it x

Awesome blog, just fell onto it but I'm glad to find others who really appreciated this Streets album.

I didn't know that it was their 2nd album, and sort of randomly came across "Grand" which I really enjoyed. While at a music store I noticed that they had a first album, and when I picked it up a couple of the employees commented on how it was way better than the second. I remember thinking that "Grand" was awesome and had high hopes, only to find that the first album lacked the narrative structure of the second...
