Modest Mouse Live

The Gotham Gal and I went to see Modest Mouse at the Hammerstein Ballroom last night.

We went because we love the new album, Good News For People Who Love Bad News.

As with many shows we see, this was eye opening.

This band rocks hard in sort of punk/grunge way, but they do it with some very different instruments. There's a cello up front and lead singer Isaac Brock plays a banjo a fair amount.

Isaac Brock is a piece of work. He sings on Bukowski, "God who'd wanna be such an asshole?" Which seems funny to me, because he sure seems like one up on stage.

There were a bunch of great songs that I've never heard. I'll have to find the set list or even better, go back and get all the old albums.

Liz. We're not saying that people shouldn't listen to Modest Mouse if you haven't heard them before they got popular. What we're saying is if you don't have the full brain capacity to understand their songs, you shouldn't listen to them.

well i belive the reason those guys are being such assholes is because modest mouse goes wayyyy back. they have been playing for over ten years now. long time fans (including myself) hate it when this new album came out and people were saying things like "i love modest mouse for the longest". but the true long time fans heard their old stuff and before they were, may i say "trendy?". they have lots of great songs excluding their new cd. i would recommend hearing "the lonesome crowded west" but warn people who dont like songs over four minutes cause their shortest song on it is shit luck (my absolute favorite) but is completely different from new MOdest MOuse. check it out, some might like it. yea, most new fans dont like their old stuff, but if you really wanted to know more check out their cd's (this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, lonesome crowded west, the moon and antartica,building nothing out of something etc. and i do mean etc. )

ive been a fan for over half a year
i first bought good news, and since then ive bought so many more, they are without a doubt one of the most interesting bands ever... their sound is so seperate from the every other indie band, almost eversong is different but yet they seem to be the same

underground bands are good for there own reasons. some bands prefer to stay slightly underground (in my opinion)to avoid being blinded by $$$. MM did not choose to do so, and again in my opinion - i feel it changed up they tune a bit.

I am a huge Modest Mouse fan for nearly a decade. I have met Isaac on a number of occaassions and I have to say, he is a raging douche bag.

i cant believe i stumbled upon this bunch of winey degenerate inbreeds who write crap about modest mouse. If you dont like them, dont listen,and dont complain! Your wasting your time.
