Are Ads On Blogs Bad?

There's a fair amount of dicussion going on about Doug Rushkoff's assertion that putting ads on his blog would be "the end of something".

I am not sure what it would be the end of other than some blank space.

As Pamela Parker points out, AdSense isn't making most of us any money.

I don't blog for money and I suspect that most bloggers don't either.

But relevant advertising is a good thing in my mind. And although AdSense isn't delivering a lot of relevance yet, the technology of contextual and behavioral targeting should develop quickly enough to allow some ad service provider, maybe AdSense and maybe someone else, to give my readers a lot of revelance.

And I think that's a good thing. And not the end of something at all.
