What Kind of Crap Is This? (continued)
The Republican Party acknowledged that they had sent mailings in Arkansas and West Virginia suggesting that if Kerry gets elected he will ban the Bible.
What kind of crap is that?

I'm afraid it's typical crap.

It's 39 days before the election - it's only going to worse - from both sides.

If you're going to take an anti-crap position, I wish you'd denounce all crap and not just the other guy's crap. Crap is crap. Yours smells and so does mine.
Challenge to Fred: identify one piece of Kerry crap. Just one. Betcha can't do it.

I'll do it for you Fred.
Hector,
Kerry's health care 'plan' is crap.
Okay, now you....

I'll admit that I cannot come up with anything the Kerry campaign has done that has been anywhere near as cheap, divisive, and demagogic as this. Perhaps I'm just not paying enough attention to my side. That can happen. If so, please, Hector, give me an example. With all due respect, I don't think Jackson's is even close.

but Kerry and the DNC are telling everyone that the President will reinstate the draft.
Charles Rangel even went as far as introducing a resolution, of course, being a Democrat this gets a pass in the NYTimes.
John Kerry's sister is down under telling the Australians that their government has put them in greater danger by supporting the war on terrorism in a shameless attempt to influence their election.
Need I mention the Lockhart-Mapes-Burkett-CBS connection.
Is that enough examples?

Thanks for the insight, Jeff. I honestly appreciate the view from the other side.
I think it is irresponsible to fear-monger with threats of a draft, but I have to say that, from what I can find, Kerry's "threat" was at best oblique. In response to a question—apparently about whether he thought there would be a draft if Bush were elected—he said "...given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea and Iran and other places, is it possible? I can't tell you." He could have said "I sincerely doubt it," but he is running against the man.
As for Rangel's resolution, that was in 2003, and I think it was meant to draw attention to the fact that we were committing a disproportionate number of minorities and the less affluent to fight a war of choice. In the end, it probably isn't good policy, but I think it did make a worthwhile point.
With regard to Kerry's sister's comment, if you were asked, would you say that Australians are safer for having joined the coalition in Iraq? The FBI Executive Assistant Director for
Counterterrorism Counterintelligence believes they aren't.
The whole CBS affair does look bad and keeps looking worse. I haven't really dug into it enough to say more. I'm certainly not proud of it.
So, Jeff, how do you feel about the original topic of this post?
Posted by: Coty | Sep 25, 2004 12:02:05 AM
before I address your question about the original topic, just want to say re your comment:
With regard to Kerry's sister's comment, if you were asked, would you say that Australians are safer for having joined the coalition in Iraq?
The Bali bombing occured before the invasion of Iraq, therefore, I think it's fair to say that the Austalians were no more safe than anyone else when it comes to terrorism, irrespective of what coalition they join, or not. Just ask the French, their "but we were against the U.S. all along" foreign policy hasn't stopped them from experiencing kidnappings and extortion.
To the original post, crap smells bad, doesn't matter whether it's blue or red. I think it's disgraceful and I'm glad they have been called out on it (the mailings, that is).

The worst crap is crap that endangers our troops or the rest of us here at home. I'm not talking policy, I'm talking propaganda/demagoguery. For example, Kerry could criticize our Iraq policy on its merits, but instead the emotional/fear mongering techniques of "Bush is going to reinstitute the draft!" (stated emphatically and NON-OBLIQUELY by his wife/billionaire financier Theresa) are crap. Kerry attempting to delegitimize Allawi is unpardonable crap. Kerry spokesman Teddy Kennedy called the Iraq war "created for political gain" and a plot "hatched in Texas", code to the Dem base who remember his brother Jack's fate in Texas. Tom Harkin, Howard Dean, Terry McAuliffe, blah blah blah -- these guys have been spewing crap like "AWOL" and "traitor" for months and, well, it is the kind of crap that is much more serious than the post that has Fred's panties in a bunch. So there, Coty. Kerry is flailing like a lobster just thrown into the kettle and his rhetoric is becoming more comical by the day.
Real policy debate is different from the "crap" Fred refers in his post, which is admittedly very lame. Whoever authorized this ought to be fired. That said, this is a tactic for highlighting the Dems increasingly shrill support for banning any mention of the word God from public discourse. The pledge, our coins, government documents, the morning prayer in the Congress, the list goes on. To me, divorcing spirituality (not religion per se) is an enormous mistake for us as a country and I believe most Americans agree with that. The Dems are increasingly seen as the party of the "nonbelievers" (most nonbelievers are Democrats or Independents) and this is a long-term liability they will want to reconsider if they ever hope to gain the White House again. Still, the tactic here by the GOP is crap.
Another good example of Bush crap is the whole stem cell debate. Bush wouldn't outlaw stem cell research, but he could say he won't fund it. Big deal! Private industry should fund it if it's worth funding. But the Bushies decided to frame it as a pro-life issue and demagogued it. The Dems seized on this (smartly) and used it against Bush convincingly. No idea why Kerry doesn't bang this gong more often, but again, his campaign looks like a fish flopping in the frying pan right now.
My dear Jackson, Kerry's health plan is a policy proposal, so I don't view it as crap in Fred's sense of the word. It's a crappy policy, as are many of his policies, but this is not a good example of Kerry crap. Please try again.
Also sorry Fred hasn't been able to name any Kerry crap ... a mark of a true Kerry die-hard!
I have to admit, I admire the loyalty.
