Firefox (continued)

Well I am going to eat some crow. I am starting to like Firefox, thanks to Matt Blumberg.

He pointed out in an email to me this morning the value of tabbed browsing.

I couldn't figure out how to open a new tab and so I didn't try it out yesterday.

It wasn't obvious even after Matt sent me the mail, but I figured it out. And its great.

I usually have 3 to 4 IE windows open at any time. And its annoying to go back and forth between them.

Tabbed browsing is great. I think I'll keep Firefox on my laptop.

I am not ready to throw out IE just yet, though.

Everbody talks about security and tabbed browsing (both of which, I admit, put FF way above IE in my book), but there are a whole lot of other little things that add up to a dramatically improved experience. The FF search function is the one that does it for me, but if you poke around for a little while you'll probably find a few of your own.

Have you globally blocked popups, allowing them only for the sites that you want to pop stuff up for you? That's another one that's grabbed a couple of folks I know.

As a side note:
Tools -> Options -> Advanced
...and unchecking "Hide the tab bar when only one site is open" should make tabs easier to work with.

There's also an extension (definitely check out extensions if you haven't yet) that adds a little button to open new tabs, if you aren't a right-clicking kind of guy.

Enjoy!
