Ashcroft Out
I am going to give George W. Bush kudos for removing one of the most cancerous elements of his administration.
Whether or not it was voluntary, and it probably was, the departure of John Ashcroft is a huge relief to me.
I just hope its not a prelude to a nomination to the Supreme Court to replace Rehnquist.
It will also be telling who Bush nominates to replace Ashcroft. If he puts forward someone that more of America can relate to, then it will signal he's looking for a legacy as a uniter. If he puts forward someone right of Ashcroft, then it will signal he's looking to remake the country in a significant way.
His stance on the Spector issue will also be telling.
Interesting times.

This was such an expected post from you, I just have to laugh. Like so many liberals, you probably can't even explain why Ashcroft is so "cancerous" to you. Just admit it: he's a Pentecostal and this is intolerable for you.

He is cancerous because he makes political decisions based on his faith, and he has declared several times that his policy is shaped and guided by God. Since the existence of God has not been proved by anyone, for me and a lot of other people he could has well say that he's led by the Great Pumpkin.
He's led by something that no one can see, no one can touch and most possibly doesn't exist. Ergo, he's mad.
Also, he's an aberration for anyone who believes in the separation between Church and State (and that should include pretty much every sane person)

I had no idea he was Pentacostal, but it's enough for me to know that you support his agenda Hector. It's clear that your anti-american stance is dangerous, and the fact that 51% of Americans feel the way you do will not stop me from pointing out the obvious; you want to do away with the Constitution Of the Uninted States and remake America into a theocracy.

Bush has named Alberto Gonzales to replace Ashcroft. Gonzales is former chief counsel to Enron and the author of the infamous torture memo. If he is confirmed it will greatly reduce other nation's willingness to cooperate with us in the war on terror.
It is a PR disaster of unimaginable proportions, so serious that I plan to write about it in the future.

I'm a registered Republican and extremely happy to see Ashcroft on the outs. The guy was a was a danger to our civil liberties, plain and simple.
Now off to find a link to a news source for the story that DOESN'T require registration...

Oh, I don't know, something like this:
"The former Missouri governor also wrote that he was anointed before each of his gubernatorial terms and on the evening before he was sworn into the U.S. Senate a friend brought out Crisco cooking oil for anointing when no holy oil could be found."
...probably ought to make one question the sanity of Ashcroft, but - then again - all kinds of kooky behavior gets a pass when defended as "religion."
So, count me in as happy he has resigned. I imagine Hady Hassan Omar is pleased as well (uh, if he hasn't been deported to Egypt yet).

He's only "cancerous" because liberals such as yourself have decided to villify him.

Yep, we just up and villify all sorts of folks for no reason at all. That's us wacky liberals again. Villify all the live long day. My daily calander reads:
Wake up, villify, shower, villify, villify, villify, villify, lunch, villify, villify some more, snack, more vilification, pretty much villify until bed. Too bad we can't be more like those republicans, they never villify anyone. Please....

giordano is right on target with this, if people who are not powerful politicians claim they are inspired by god they generally end up in a psych ward in no time. glad to see the weirdo go, im waiting to see the dawn of a new era of sanity and enlightment in the world where religion is no longer gonna be an issue. atheists of the world unite !
