My 50 Favorite Albums (continued)
I've gone back and read all of the comments to all of my "top 50" posts. The huge amount of suggestions has been incredibly helpful. They've reminded me of so many records/CDs that I love but don't listen to much anymore.
One that I came across and have been listening to again is The Stone Roses self-titled first album. This is one of the best records ever made. And the bizarre thing is that this band never amounted to much after this record.
But who cares. It's brilliant. The Gotham Gal and I used to listen to this record all the time. We put it back in rotation and we could sing along with every song on the record after having not heard it in probably ten years.
So The Stone Roses get into the Top 50.

I totally agree. "Fool's Gold" is potentially one of the best songs ever. My roomate at the time owned the actual disk but I just went to iTunes music store and downloaded it again. Nice pick.

The very first album I ever bought is Santana's title album "Santana" including such classics as "Evil Ways". Still one of my favorite albums, and it would easily make it into my top 50.
ps I enjoy your blog - keep posting.

A truly greay record, so much so that the band died because of the hype, they knew they couldn't ever top that record.

Oooh! Another great call... I just did a similar thing. I pulled this out of the old CD booklets, ripped it to MP3 and stuffed it on my iPod, where it's been serving me very well on my commute. I think one of the greatest things about this record is that it sounded classic and timeless when it came out -- from the songwriting to the production -- and even though it was cutting edge for its day (the melding of rock, pop and club music), it sounded like it could have come out in '66.

"I Wanna Be Adored" is one of the songs that's on all of my playlists, right up there with "Chloe Crown of Thorns," by Mother Love Bone.
Did Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction make your list? For me and millions of others, it was the CD of 1988. I recently downloaded Sweet Child O' Mine, which I can't get enough of again and even turned my oldest son onto the song.
