The Gates
We took the whole family up to Central Park today to see Christo's public art project called The Gates.
It was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies serving as the perfect backdrop for the bright orange gates that are lined up one after another all over the park.
We weren't the only ones who decided to go see The Gates today. The park was mobbed with people and I suspect it will be that way until the project comes down in two weeks.
But it really didn't matter. The crowds of people didn't take anything away from the beauty of the installation.
If you live in NY or nearby or are visiting the city in the next couple weeks, I would urge you to go see The Gates. It's a really amazing sight to behold.
UPDATE: Jarvis hated The Gates. I've heard that from a few people.
I loved them. It was a river of color flowing through the park. It lit the place up. Beauty is art, its that simple for me.

I had signed up to work on that project, but couldn't swing a work visa on my own, so couldn't take part. I still marvel at the fact that they do this all on some private funding arrangement, and that Christo's art would appear to be solely for the raw impact; thousands of umbrellas, gates, wrapped islands and buildings.

Flying in on Thursday out on Monday, for some business meetings but mostly to be in NYC for the Gates. I plan on going a few times while in town, at different times of days, from different parts of the park etc.
Looks to be truly amazing, glad it lives up it!

There was a great story on CNN Sunday night about Christo and his wife. They're quite the revolutionaries - what they did with the Reichstag was genius.
Maybe I'll get to see the Gates if my offer to be in a levi's jeans ad to be filmed in NYC featuring bloggers actually gets accepted. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the Gates pictures (I wonder how many Google searches for photos of that Microsoft guy will end up here?).
I wish I could get to New York for this. I saw Christo's Umbrellas while in California several years ago and although I hadn't expected much, it was amazing.
