The Killers
Thank god for kids with good taste in music.
Jessica and Emily told me to get the Killers' debut disc.
It's great. The Smiths meet Oasis meets Franz Ferdinand.
Excellent stuff.
UPDATE: On second listen, I hear a lot of The Cure in this band too.

I've been tracking your blog for a while, because I'm interested in your line of work, and find your postings very insightful. However, I have to say, your taste in music absolutely rocks. As a 22 year old all the way over the pond in the UK I find myself listening and agreeing with the same CDs you post on your blog -- not often you find that with a so called 'generation gap'. What a refreshing thing that you can pick music and culture up from your kids and enjoy it -- I guess a lot of the companies you help develop invest heavily in the youth market, too, and it's great to be tuned into their thinking!
Oh, and favourite track on that one has to be 'Mr. Brightside'. I have a slight bias as it reminds me of the good times I had on a recent skiing vacation.
Best

I'm surprised that you just mentioned The Killers now because I had assumed that you had done it way before I found your blog last summer. It is a great album though. Top ten for me in 2004.
Someone who is of a totally different genre, but I haven't heard you mention (and I think you'd like) is Mike Doughty. He was the lead singer/writer for Soul Coughing, a band that was the darling of the nyc underground in the 90's. Doughty does what I'd call him "alt-nouveau," but he likes the term "small rock" better.
Sadly, his best album, "Haughty Melodic," is unreleased still, but that's why cd burners and post offices exist. You can pick up Rockity Roll/Skittish on amazon anytime though.
ps. if you haven't heard the mildly hallucinogenic Soul Coughing, then make sure to pick up Ruby Vroom, too.

Funny. My teenage daughter got the Killers album recently and my wife and I listened to it in the car with her last week. After about 4 songs, I pronounced that these guys must have been huge fans of the Cure.
I only found this page by googling The Cure and The Killers. Now I'm interested to see what you say about other "new bands". I've already favorably referred to Franz Ferdninand , which I'm guessing from the above you also like.
I'm curious to see what you have to say about the Fountains of Wayne, which have a less "Cure-like" sound, but who I really like.

In the video on Mr. Brightside, what does the drum in the background have written on it
