Cold Roses

Cold_rosesJason Chervokas commented on my spiff post that the second disc of the new Ryan Adams record, Cold Roses, is great.

That's blogging.  A post on XSPF generated a comment that makes me go to Rhapsody and play some new music I haven't heard.

Here is Jason's blog post on Cold Roses.

You know what.  Jason is right.  It's just fantastic.  I have never listened to Ryan Adams very much.  I liked Whiskeytown but we don't own any of his solo records.

And Jason is also right about the first disc.  There are only a couple good tracks on it.

But the second disc.  Wow!  The back to back numbers, If I Am A Stranger and Dance All Night, are stuck in my head and I can't get them out.

If you like alt-country with a little hint of the Grateful Dead, this is the record for you.

I have been getting more and more into Ryan Adams over the past few months. A friend gave me Heartbreaker and I loved it, I got my hands on Love is Hell and Gold and keep liking what I hear. I haven't listened to the new album yet, just haven't had the chance to buy it, but I am excited. He is playing in Philly tomorrow night but I am stupid and waited too long to get tix and now it is sold out. My loss .. I was really looking forward to it.

If you are just beginning to listen to Ryan Adams’ music, I’d suggest that Gold is a great place to start. It’s very accessible. Make sure you also get the tracks from the bonus second disc. As for Whiskeytown, Pneumonia is one of my favorite albums of all time.

When this CD came out, I went over to Rhapsody and read the review which said it is almost as good as 'Heart Breaker'.

So I figured I'd start with that first CD (gotta love Rhapsody) and work my way up. Been loving that one...especially with Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch helping out!

Cold Roses is next.
