The Stones

I've said for years that I would never go see The Stones again.  For my taste, they are way past their prime.  If I could have seen them on their 1972 tour, well that would have been it for me.

The idea of watching 60 year old guys sing songs they wrote 30 to 40 years ago doesnt' really excite me.

I told this to my friend Bob when he went with his brother and sister to see them on their last tour.  And Bob said I was wrong.  He said the three of them had a great time.

StonesSo when I saw the picture of Mick and Keith at Julliard yesterday I felt a pang of jealousy that I wasn't there to see them do three songs live.

And then when I came home and saw Josh wearing his tie die stones lips shirt, I knew I was going to see them this tour and take him with me.

I got five tickets last night and its going to be a family affair at Giants Stadium this September.

You made the right call. My only caveat is that being as old as I am and seeing as few shows as I do, when something like this comes up, I typically hold my nose and pay the scalpers whatever to get great seats. That certainly colored my opinion of Les Stones the last time out. And they did rock.

Should've picked up two more seats for Jackson and I...

You only have to watch the MSG HBO show to know that these 60 year old guys can rock your socks off. I WILL be catching them here in ATL.

BTW... I was commenting to Jackson that while watching some footage of the three song set the boys played at the announcement and after catching Mick and Keith on the Today Show, I noticed that Keith did NOT have a cigarette in his hand. His voice sounded different (better) as well. I wonder if he's bagged the habit? Certainly if he can, ANYBODY can.

I never saw them in 72 either, but Tony and I saw 'em twice in 89, and I'd never pass up that opportunity should it arise. This time, I want to take my Girl, she's been listening to Black and Blue lately, she digs the Billy Preston inspired 'Melody', and of course 'Cherry Oh Baby'......

I had the same misgivings about ten years ago when some choice tickets came into my possession. I've long been a fan, and I took my dad since he is a huge Stones fan. Both of us were absolutely amazed at the performances. They did a bunch of new stuff as well as some old stuff, but here is the deal: The Stones rock. They still have it and can bring on the show which is pretty impressive given that there appeared to be three generations of people in the absolutely sold out stadium.

I've seen them three times - in the Capital Centre in DC in '81 (Emotional Rescue), Shea Stadium in '89 (Steel Wheels), and at Giants Stadium in '97 (some unmemorable album), so I guess I'm on schedule to see them again. Ironically, they're probably in better health now than in '81 (although I'm pretty sure Keith is still smoking, just not as much as Ronnie Wood). But I can't see going this time. Others may disagree, but I just can't get interested in another Stones show in a place like Giants Stadium. I can't imagine how they're going to improve over the '97 show, and that one was mediocre. It's not the "event" it once was, and it certainly isn't about the music in a place like that. And my kids aren't interested.

On the other hand, wake me up when Paul McCartney comes to town. That I'd see again.

You don't want to see 60 year old guys on stage, is the same feeling I get when I hear you comment on Green Day.

Needless to say, I saw the Stones in 2002 at Ford Field in Detroit...they were excellent. Probably one of the better stadium shows I have ever seen. They are coming back here in the late Summer to Comerica park (a terrible place for concerts), but I really want to go see them.

As for McCartney...he is coming later this year, but his prices are sky high crazy.

Rock on

(Green Day album is cool..thanks)
