Want To Waste A Half Hour?

Download Google Earth.

Sorry, no Mac software yet.

But this is an incredible piece of technology.

Google's been showing it off on Google local for a while and I blogged about that in early April.

It's so much fun to type in addresses of places you've lived, places you've visited, and be taken there through the power of desktop computing and satellite imaging.

Wow.

Its a huge improvement over the previous version of google maps. The ability to change the angle of observation makes it really seem like you are flying at 5000 feet. As I pilot, I can attest to this.

Unfortunately, they've canceled the download feature for now...kinda like their Web Accelerator...
I downloaded it on my home pc while I still could, but I don't have windows 2000 there. I do have 2000 here, on my dorm pc, so I hope that I can just transfer the install file to this pc via gmail and it'll work.

Anyway, Google should test their stuff more. Disabling the download after only, what, 2 days, is very bad pr.

If you were lucky enough to get a copy, open this file in google earth and click on the "play" button- you get to fly over the path of the ride!

Its a map of a bike ride that was uploaded from a GPS to www.motionbased.com, then exported to Google earth.
