Build It There

I am not interested in wading into the complicated waters of what to build or not to build at Ground Zero, but I am very interested in the football stadium wars that are taking place in NYC right now.

First there was the idea to build a Jets stadium on the west side of Manhattan which was part of Bloomberg's Olympics folly.  That rightly got shut down.  That site is too valuable to be used for a football stadium and Manhattan has a lot of traffic and mass transit issues to solve already.

Then I heard the Jets and Giants were negotiating to build a joint stadium near the current Giants stadium in the Meadowlands. I guess that makes economic sense because they can amortize the cost over two teams instead of one.  But apparently the Jets and Giants can't make a deal.

So now the Jets are talking about building a stadium in Queens, near Shea Stadium and LaGuardia Airport, where they started out (they are called the Jets afterall).

I suspect that this is negotiating more than anything else in an attempt to bring the Giants to the table and get what the Jets need in the Meadowlands.

But if its for real, I am all for it.  It's a pain to take mass transit to take the family to the Jets game.  We have to get into the car, drive through the tunnels, sit in traffic, and then deal with the parking nightmare that is the Meadowlands.

I'd love going to a Jet game to be as easy as jumping on the 7 train and heading out to Shea.

So here's my vote for bringing the Jets back to Queens.

It's such a no brainer. Just f-ing do it already. Everybody, except some hotel people in East Rutherford and some folks from surrounding townships in Jersey who send their young to The Medowlands for their first shitty job, wants the Jets back in New York. Screw Jersey, screw the Giants, there's miles of chopshops and abandoned warehouses out in Queens, it's all around the best thing to do.

Imagine, just for a minute, forget the Mayor, forget the Olympics, forget traffic hasssles, and imagine walking ten blocks to the game, hell you could tailgate at home!

I say tear down the Javitz, if for no other reason than to piss off the union, bastards, and plop that sucker right on the west side highway. The MTA yards become parking. You work a deal with EZ-Pass and Jet's season ticketholders, on game days the Henry Hudson/West Side Highway becomes Avenue Jets!

I should run for mayor.

It is a shame that they are building the stadium in New Jersey. The L.A. Dodgers should still claim to be from Brooklyn if this deal makes one bit of sense. Building the stadium in New Jersey defeats the whole purpose of my Jets getting their own stadium. The whole purpose is to come home to New York, and to make the Giants envious and not share a stadium with them. And, by the way, if they ever share a stadium with us in New York, WE should be the landlords and they should pay rent to US. To illustrate the fallacy of this shared stadium deal, consider this headline"PALESTINIANS AND JEWS AGREE ON SHARED TEMPLE MOUNT HOUSE OF WORSHIP."It will be the Dome of the Rock when the Muslims are there and the Jewish temple when the Jews are there.-------It is the dream of every sports fan to go see his team's home game and Jets fans can never do that if their home never exists. It is a shame. Such sports franchises as Boston Red Sox, Manchester United, F.C. Dallas 96(Major League Soccer),etcetera,have no clue how spoiled they are to be able to play real home games.--------I don't care what type of "partnership" we have in the M--------ds(I can't say that nasty word);we are still cohabitating with the Giants.-------I am a Jets fan. We should have built our stadium in Queens.(I also like the Giants. They should get a seperate New York stadium as well like the Yankees and Mets have.)
