We took the whole family plus our niece Julia to see Coldplay at Madison Square Garden last night.

My favorite moment was when they went back a couple records and played the first Coldplay song I ever heard - Yellow.

Big yellow balls fell from the ceiling. It was a cool effect and the song still does it big for me.

Coldplay is a great band with many wonderful songs. They put on a great production. I can't say they put on a great performance because I wasn't all that close and it was a big arena show. I always walk away from these big arena shows wishing I had been at a small intimate club. But this is about money and the Garden is the way to make lots of it.

But Emily, Jessica, and Julia, who are all big Coldplay fans, said it was great.

So it was great for me too.

UPDATE: I left a couple things out. They played Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Really great. Also, Chris changed the lyrics in Politik to something like (doing this from memory) "give me manhattan, brooklyn, bronx, and queens, give your love to New Orleans". That was awesome.

Funny. I'm taking my daughter, also named Emily, plus two of her friends to see Coldplay tonight.

I'm not a Coldplay fan. There music goes in one of my ears and out the other without ever really registering. I'd describe it as inoffensive but completely forgettable. Still, the kids are really looking forward to it.

Coldplay is one of my favorite bands also, so I would love to hear them do "Ring of Fire." One of my favorite songs on XYZ is the bonus track, "Kingdom Come," which sounds to me like Chris Martin's best Johnny Cash impersonation. I can almost hear the duet in my head every time I listen to that song. I've been meaning to look up the song to see if it's original or a cover. Any ideas there?

Jill and I went to see Coldplay here in the bay area in mid-August. The show was a lot of fun save for far too many drunk teenagers. I've seen a lot of great shows in my lifetime and my perception of the Coldplay show was very similar to yours. It was a wonderful production with great lights, video, and interaction. Coldplay didn't wow me as a band, but as part of the production they were great. In early August I saw Dave Matthews for the 12 or 13th time. That was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. The production wasn't as cool as Coldplay, but as a band they wowed me. Their performance was EXCELLENT!

I will say that I really enjoyed the more intimate acoustic set, and I thought the hat tip to Johnny was classy. The Ring of Fire cover was one of the best I've ever heard and the song they wrote for Johnny Cash was awesome. I love Coldplay as a band, their textures and hooks are great, but I'll take Muse and Radiohead for performance any day of the week.

I was at the concert last night and I was pretty close to the stage and I have to say, they did put on a great show. I'd say "Clocks" was my favourite song of the night, though the tip to Cash was excellent too.

But yes, on the whole, I'd rather have Radiohead too :)

I saw them at the Shoreline in Mountain View (bay area) a few weeks back and must say that we were a bit disappointed.

Whereas last time they toured the bay area, their performance was tight, focused and phenomenal for a band I would expect to be better in a studio than live, this go around had a bit more of the, "let's do some acoustic, now let's change some words in songs, now let's stop in the middle of the song to make a joke..."

My wife and I quipped that Chris Martin was trying to hard to be Bono. That said, X&Y is a super-super album, and builds on the richness of the prior two albums.

Coldplay really can put on an impressive show. I was fortunate enough to catch the taping of Coldplay's VH1 Storytellers at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Talk about going from Coldplay Fan, to Coldplay *fan*! The show was incredible, and the atmosphere superb. One part of the show that didn't make the broadcast (I don't think), was Chris mentioning that 'Kingdom Come' was written for Johnny Cash. Cash had the song in his queue to record when he passed away. It's one of my favorites from the new album.

Another funny nugget from the taping was when one of the audience members was asking a question and said that he was a neighbor of Martin's in the Village. I thought it was pretty common knowledge, but Chris' comment was, 1/2 jokingly, 'Thanks for telling everyone here where I live.'

i caught the msg performance as well as the aol music performance back in may http://www.xanga.com/hey_kitty_kitty. they had a bit of hard streak in NY so far, but heard the rest of the twisted logic tour's been great (minus chris martin getting sick). saw the acl festival was aweeomse too: http://www.vh1.com/artists/news/1510346/09262005/coldplay.jhtml?_requestid=318212

i see them in the dc area at the end of this week. we'll see if they bring out something new in the set...

i went to the Cold Play show last night at the Nissan pavillion outside of washington DC...i have been a HUGE cold play fan since there very first album..they havent recorded one song that i dont absolutly love!! So of course the concert was even better then i thought it would be..it was unbelievable!! a sold out show with 50thousand people and then some....they are absolutly the best! and Chris is hilarious... that just adds to everything else!!
