The "We Media Deal"
One of my all-time favorite blog posts by anyone was done by Matt Blumberg, CEO of Flatiron's portfolio company, Return Path, in August 2004. In that post, Matt described the "New Media Deal" which is at the heart of the business models of every major web company today. It's as brilliant today as it was back when Matt wrote it. I quote from it all the time.
Matt has updated his thinking in relation to all the important new web services that are built around community powered data and user generated content and has come up with the "We Media Deal". Again its brilliant stuff. Go read it.
