Arctic Monkeys Available Now

The Arctic Monkeys record, Whatever People Say I Am Thats What I Am Not, was released in the US on Tuesday.  It's number four on Amazon already.

I bought the UK record last month and have been obsessed with it ever since.  Not a bad song on the record and some amazing ones.

Here's a YouTube video of a live MTV2 performance of When The Sun Goes Down, one of the two singles off the record so far.

Fred-

They are indeed awesome aren't they. You may want to check out the video podcast from KCRW's morning becomes eclectic. Some live footage of the boys' in-studio performance.

And, another gem I picked up from KCRW recently: Lewis Taylor. He is an somewhat obscure british jazz-soul artist who is like Jamiroquai, but far far better. The discs are hard to find, but can be ordered thru HMW. He has one album on iTunes, which I broke my policy of not buying DRM'd tracks to buy yesterday. Here is the link for KCRW podcast for that program:

You can get (i.e. download as well as stream) lots of Arctic Monkeys audio & video, including early demos & numerous gigs, at this fansite:

All nicely DRM-free too. Enjoy, it's great stuff.

You know what's funny about the Arctic Monkeys? I find myself talking about them more than I listen to them. Whenever I've found myself in a conversation about music lately, I've dropped the name and everyone else is like "Yeah, they're the next big thing!"

But you know what? They're good. They're not great. Bloc Party was great. And that Hard-Fi which you turned me on to. That's great. I actually find myself skipping over a few Monkeys songs to get to "Cash Machine" which is next in line in my queue. And this Scottish vocalist I just discovered, K. T. Tunstall - wow, she is great and I 'm leaning towards seeing her Friday night SXSW show over the Monkeys' own gig that evening. That's really saying something...

But the Arctic Monkeys? They're cool, they have a nice throwback to the Clash and the Buzzcocks sound, and they seem agreeably rough in that well known British working class style. But I'd take Bloc Party over them anyday.
