Nuggets

Vol_4Earlier this week in NYC, Ozzy, Tony, Geezer, and Bill got the recognition they deserve.  Black Sabbath was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.  It was only about ten years too late.  These guys invented much of the heavy metal genre.

Paranoid made my Top 50 and is probably their best known record.  But it was a tossup with this one, Volume 4.

To be honest, I don't listen to Black Sabbath very much anymore, but when I do, its always Volume 4.

Snowblind and Supernaut are two of Sabbath's best.  I never tire of those two songs.

But the entire record is Sabbath's most listenable record and seems to have aged the best.  At least for me.  None of the early records (the great ones) are available online so the only link I'll give is to Amazon where you can still get the CD.

Congrats Black Sabbath on the induction.

Agreed, it took way too long for these guys to be recognized for their impact. I remember back in the late 70's reading the Rolling Stone Rock and Roll Record guide review of the BS albums to date that included this one and none were given a better than two star rating, mostly single stars along with horrendous reviews. What a bunch of short sighted dicks.

I may just pull this out to jam to while I cut the grass in my backyard on this lovely St. Pat's day.

I went to a Black Sabbath concert when I was in 8th grade (Mob Rules tour with Dio). It was my very first concert. I was frankly scared to death by all the people dressed up in black leather. But it was still frickin' cool.

Vol. 4 is also available as a re-issue on 180 gram vinyl. I've blogged this record three times now. 'Wheels of Confusion', that's all I got to say.
