Seeking Some SEO Advice
Charlie has been working on optimizing the Union Square Ventures weblog for search results.
He is having great success with Yahoo! but is struggling with Google.
So he wrote this post looking for some advice.
If SEO is your bag, I'd love it if you could give him some tips.

Containing members of both the Futureheads and Maximo Park, the British band Field Music contains none of the nervous twitching or fretful fretwork that characterizes those bands.

Hey Fred, this is an SEO who lives next door to Union Square! I work for Connie Connors up the street from you. You might want to refer Charlie to MyLongTail. You might want to check it out as well as a VC. Connie's mostly funding it in-house, but looks like the type of thing that's up your alley. There's a narrated PowerPoint/Flash demo on the homepage.

Overall, we describe the effort as "SEO web design", although what we do is not traditional web design. It is performance-based marketing.
The next step would be to identify the goals of your individual site. We would then review your site per performance concerns and assemble a plan to address traffic concerns.
The work that is performed is customized to the needs of the client business and site as the search terms targeted - and the associated competitive landscape - vary per client account.
A lot to digest here- it is a complex process. On the other hand, leveraging search as a sales channel is how Google currently generates 98% of its revenue. So it's an established way to drive targeted traffic to a web site, where the improved targeting results in increased sales.
