Unmoderating Comments!!!

TypePad launched CAPTCHAs yesterday afternoon.

This is the best news I've had all month and it's been a month of really good news.

I have been moderating the comments on my blog for months to rid the comments pages of spam.

Now, with CAPTCHAs, I don't have to do that anymore.

When you comment on this blog, you'll get a preview of the comment and be asked to fill out a field with some letters and numbers that are shown graphically.

So the conversation goes back to real time, I gain a bunch of wasted time back, and life is good.

Thank you TypePad!!!

Good luck reading some of these silly pictures. They should have just had something that just said "Spell Fred."

I'm happy about this - was on my list at top - now they should do same for trackbacks...

Fred,

There's even more good news from TypePad regarding spam control. Check out the comment from Colleen on my post about CAPTCHAs, here:

http://www.typepadhacks.org/2006/04/captchas_to_dec.html

She mentions another new anti-spam feature from TypePad that has quietly gone live.

Fantastic. The world is indeed a much better place now.

I hope this works out for you. Be aware that captchas have already been defeated on a small scale, both by computers, and by using things like Amazon's mturk, so don't fall out of your chair if you find some comment spam again at some point.
