AVC's Community

Mybloglog_1 If you don't read this blog via the web, you might not know about a community that's been developing around my blog. There are 52 members so far. If you'd like to join, just go here and set up an account.

You can see the community members who have most recently visited on this widget that is running on my left sidebar right "beneath the fold".

The whole thing is powered by a service called MyBlogLog. It's very basic right now as they just rolled it out ,but I hope they'll add a lot more functionality, like showing your avatar when you post a comment if you are in the community, letting you see all the comments each community member has posted, etc. You get the idea.

I like it because its a way to add some social networking to the blog world and I think it's badly needed.

I like this new service, but I don't see any women...Geek kingdom...

Although it's young and raw (and they should get a designer), MyBlogLog is the coolest new web service I've seen in some time. Excellent use of cookies too.

I agree about the comments. IMHO that should be the next feature.

It works well, easy to sign up.

However, it's a tad scary. Like, my picture is right next to this post. Weirdness.

Adding an XX chromosome to the mix! Watch out, guys...

Yep. It is quite cool!

Hey Fred, Why dont you invest in them and get them to integrate with Sitepal and that other comment tracking system. That would make for a kickass application no??

This service is cool -- and definitely something we need. But I have a problem, and that is that I visit your site from 3-8 different computers in any given month. That means I have to log in for each of them and blah blah blah.

Someone really needs to solve the problem of identity on the internet.

I think Feedburner should buy these guys.

The ability to put a face/location with statistics would be amazing.

And here is an interview with Eric Marcoullier . In it, he offers some useful info about teh new site:

"I have a problem, and that is that I visit your site from 3-8 different computers in any given month...someone really needs to solve the problem of identity on the internet."

Exactly! We're trying to help do that at PrefPass; I talk about it in a post called "microchunking identity" here.

PrefPass can also help blogs learn more about readers, including folks that might not want to join a full fledged social network. For starters, you can give readers a personalized list of postings that match their interests, and generate an audience tag cloud. For an example, check out my blog econometa.com.

PrefPass is in limited beta right now, so please, feel free to get an invite at prefpass.com!
