Checking Out Lily Allen

05alle190The NY Times did a piece on Lily Allen in today's paper.

A female version of The Streets? Gotta check that out.

But how? The Times didn't post an mp3 even though Lily's got four of her songs on her myspace page. And the record isn't on Rhapsody.

Of course we could listen on myspace, but instead we went to the hype machine and listened there.

It's not The Streets, but she's pretty good. Might have to get the record. I particularly like this song about her younger brother, Alfie. It cracks me up.

Do so Fred.

If you like The Streets you'll probably like her too. Similar sentiment and stories, albeit with more tunes, ska beats and even more humor (well The Streets make me laugh, anyway!).

Say it ain't so Fred, but I fear that despite our exchanges you haven't been reading my blog religiously enough - otherwise you'd have been ahead of the New York curve http://makemarketinghistory.blogspot.com/2006/07/do-i-have-famous-friends.html

Yes. I like that too, and may have to look for the album. On the other hand... God help us, when we're looking at the New York effing Times for music recommendations... time to start saving for dentures and assistant living expenses.

Hrm.. I've only heard one track of hers, and it's trashy chav-pop... But I do love the streets, so I suppose I'll have to look into it further :)

Lily is the next big thing here in London. Her CD went straight in at No 1 on the UK charts. Smile is the hit and is great summertime music. Buy it, I did.

I wouldn't call her a female version of the Streets, but she is quite good. I'd categorize her more as a white version of Dynamite.
