My Kind Of Bottled Water
The Gotham Gal picked up this new bottled water at Murray's Bagles this morning. Gotta love the name!
And I love the whiskey bottle shape. Nice touch.
But it gets better. Fred's got a blog with his favorite YouTube videos and indie films on it.
And Fred's got a MySpace page too.

Water in a "whisky-looking bottle"? It reminds me of a company that a friend of mine ran back in the 90's (can't remember the name). They introduced fruit juice products packaged in similar bottles. They thought it was cute. It ended up being an unmitigated disaster. Parent and teacher groups went ballistic , claiming the bottle would encourage kids to drink alcohol. Retailers -- including all of the big supermarket chains -- ran for the hills and delisted the product. The manufacturer withdrew the product and wrote off a bundle of money. My friend was fired.

That's not a blog, it's a weekly newsletter with no comment option. No conversation - just a diatribe!

Sounds like trademark infringement to me. I'm on the case!

Fred likes the Zombies!
He doesn't sell whiskey, but this reminds me of some of the beer brewers in India that skirt the laws regarding advertising of alcohol. Instead of advertising beer, they advertise buying bottled water that coincidentally has the same name of their beer.

Microsoft had to pay the Stones $10 million for Start Me Up for the Windows95 launch. If you put your commercial on YouTube, does that mean you don't have to pay the copyright holders?

Hello Everyone. My name is Adam Gayner. I am the Founder and President of Fred Beverages and thread [the ad agency in NYC, originally based out of Potrero Hill in SF]. Feel free to send any questions my way. Here are some thoughts re: your comments above.
1. Fredspot is an eZine. It should have comments, but it's not a blog or newsletter. Meaning, it's more editorialized. Many people like the 'diatribe' and admittedly it's not for everyone. We like it and so do many NYC Friends of Fred. Other cities will launch as the product becomes available there - and as that happens, increased functionality will come as well. In terms of adding the ability for people to make comments and become official FOFs [Friends of Fred], we are working on it. It's just that the success of this launch has taken us by so much surprise that we have been behind in some things. Like our online store too. Which should be live shortly. Sounds hokey to claim being too busy - but in this case, we're grass roots and it's true.
2. The Stones comment is something we caught and corrected.
3. In terms of this juice anecdote, if you don't mind I’m interested to hear more about this. What was the name? So far, the retailers are not taking the issue you raise seriously - at all. Our platform for being is pretty strong and the response is proving this out [ platform is best explained in recent interview at http://www.psfk.com/2006/09/interview_adam_.html ].
But I am always interested to here about details of case studies that may help me out or be relevant in some ways to my success.
Cheers. Good friend of Fred, Adam Gayner.
