Feeds As Ads
FeedBurner rolled out something pretty neat recently. Using their headline animator service, you can create basically ad units that pull from your feed. This is just a first step in a larger effort to build a suite of feed powered services that will distribute your media wherever you want it to go.
Here's an ad for my blog that I built this morning in about five minutes.
I am going to see if I can buy a bunch of impressions on the FeedBurner ad network for this ad. It's not yet automated, so I'll have to call in a favor. If I do that, you'll probably be seeing this ad in feeds and sites across the blog world.

This is big news. One step closer to ads as content. Imagine this combined with Tacoda! Google acquisition target? Thanks for letting us know.

So now we have to see your big head in our feeds, too? Overexposure! :)

hey fred, that's great...thanks for using our new headline animator! also, here are some other examples of "live ads" that are better sized for feeds...and, yes, some that have even been "designed" a bit :)

What I would love to see would be the ability to create an ad like that for one of my properties, tell Feedburner how much I am willing to pay per click over to my site, and let them display that on a page somewhere that they promote like heck where any other Feedburner site or any other site can just choose my ad (you may have heard this before from me sorry ;-)
I would expect higher CTRs from feed-based ads -- do you know if that has been proven yet? Because if that is the case, and the properties putting them up are paying average cost per clicks, then the increased clicks should result in superior performance in higher CPMs for the publisher

Fred--try a better picture that gives some contrast so text is legible.

For the two Charlie's, here are a couple alternatives using the same service that one of our designers whipped up:
