Ain't Talking Bout Love
Well actually it was love. But it didn't last that long.
I woke up this morning, fired up my browser, and found this love letter to Van Halen written by Bob Lefsetz. Man can I relate.
For two years, 1978 and 1979, I loved that band. By the third record, it was over and I was in college. But those first two records. Damn were they good.
So I went to YottaMusic and put on the best of record that Bob talked about in his post.
Then the first record.
Then the second.
All before breakfast.

I love the third record (W&CF). You took me to see them on that tour (80), they played Boston Gardens. Thanks.

"Fair Warning" is considered by most VH fans to be their high point. "Unchained" is considered by most to be their baddest track. You should definitely check it out.
I've been waiting to see DLR play with VH since I was 12 years old. I'm seriously considering spending a month in the US to follow the tour!
cheers

Hey Fred! (& Pat & Ted!),
That is so weird. I woke up this morning with Cradle Will Rock going thru my head but I have not heard the song in many years. I did just get my brother to dupe the 1st 2 albums for me, I think I'll go get the 3rd & 4th soon. I like all 4 a lot. Or I remember liking them a lot.
These days I'm more of a Jimmy Herring fan as far as ripping guitars go...
Cheers! Peace.

the first record! My brother & I wore that out! It was our staple album for skateboarding in the front yard ;-) Always played at 11 ;-) Great memories.

Mr. Wheeler,
Jimmy Herring did his best work with Col (ret.) Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit in the early 90's with Oteil Burbridge (Allman Bros. Band) playing bass and Matt Mundy on madolin. Was a frequent patron of many Atlanta/Athens clubs in the day and the ARU could be found at one of them each weekend.
Didn't Herring actually play with the Allman Bros. for a while too?

Yes indeed Herring played w/ Allmans for a spell. I heard some of the more, lets call them reactionary, "fans" actually booed him, like it was his fault Dicky got the boot.
Anyway, I've always thought him an excellent player. I only saw ARU once but that is very cool you (Pat) got to see them a lot. He played w/ Jazz is Dead (epic band that could have used original material too) then w/ Phil & Friends for awhile. Now with the most awesome Panic (my fav).
Hope Van Halen does something excellent with this reunion. Peace Ya'll.
