There's A Community Here At AVC (continued)

Here's a list of the top 52 commenters at AVC since the start of this blog.

Comment_counts_1

This data is not available in TypePad so I had to get it elsewhere. And so this is the first time I've seen it. I did not have this data available when I wrote the original post on this topic.

I got Jackson and Tony Alva right. That was easy. I am not sure if Steve is one person or an aggregation of several. It sure helps to have a url to identify someone.

But how did I miss Charlie Crystle, Dave Friedman, and Rick Stratton in that original post? These guys are veterans who continue to add their insights on a regular basis and this blog would not be the same without them.

I got the rest of the top 10 right. Phew.

Chris from biztechie and Raj are also stalwarts who deserve recognition. As do Tom and Jason who are not surprisingly in the top 15 (Tom is shown as two different people on this list lower down).

I am happy to see Hugh, Giordano, and Dimitar up at the top. I love these guys. Hugh's from London, Giordano's italian but lives in Brazil (did I get that right?), and Dimitar is from Bulgaria. AVC's an international community!

I could go on and on, but I'll stop there. I know I should link out to all these people. But I am rushing to get this out and go have breakfast with my kids.

One last thought. 772 comments Jackson! Wow. That's a lot of captchas to fill out.

Thanks for the list.

Makes me now think how cool it'd be if one could generate a similar list of all the blogs we've commented on as individual bloggers, and the number of comments by blog.

Will have to check if one can do that with a service like Cocomment.

P.S. Hope you're beating the flu and feeling better

Long time reader, first time commentor :)

We just had a post at YGG about what the ideal community app would be like. Something that would tie in forums, blogs, etc. - Your input/opinions would sure be valuable!

Here's a link to the topic: What would the best community app be like?

My 2007 resolution of cracking the top 38 has been achieved. :)

First I'd like to thank God, for giving me the talent to......

maybe the chart has the last digit cropped off or the Jackson kudo doesn't match-- the pic I see shows 77 comments from Jackson. A very short and long tail indeed!

I'll just have to be more prolific next year. Now that I know scoring is determined by quantity not quality, I will endeavor to game the system...

Fred - do you find much deal-flow through your blog?

I remember I used to read blogs a lot more back when I wasn't working for/on an exciting startup.

It's also funny when you see the same "startup founders" posting on blogs all over the place.

I mean, aren't they supposed to be out building their startup? =) (just *mostly* kidding...)

Michael P,

Yes, CoComment does do what you describe and you can have it sent in an RSS feed or log onto their site. It's pretty cool. Check it out, I bet you'll like it.

Something tells me I need to get a life.

What a fantastic post, I love seeing community and contributors get recognition.

It's interesting that everyone seems so focused on creating a killer social network by offering slicker and cooler AJAX interfaces but you've proven here that the heart of a community is passion and shared interest.

I didn't realize I was that prolific. I can't imagine how many posts I've added to the only other blog I comment on regularly - that of course being the Milwaukee Journal's Packer Plus Online.

Thought I'd also respond to the shout-out on your post from Friday.

I used to read a lot of VC blogs. I stopped reading most of them on a regular basis as I came to realize I was reading them not because I wanted to but because I felt it was required reading given my chosen line of work. Obviously, given the fifteen years of working together (actually, the fifteenth anniversary of the first deal we closed together is coming up), I'm interested when you post about venture or entrepreneurship, because it's often about something I worked on. But I think what differentiates your blog (and its community) is that I can identify with it personally. There is a soul to it, a three-dimensional quality. I focus on the comments when you post about entrepreneurship, when people start relaying their personal experiences - good, bad, ugly, etc. I'll add a comment if I think it would be helpful. I'm interested in your posts on music, sports and family (FYI, most of your posts about music and sports are really about family), because we're about the same age, have been married about as long and our kids are about the same age. But at the same time, our life experiences are very different. You moved back to the city just when we chose to move to Connecticut. Our perspectives are the same in some ways and different in other ways. So much of what you write about is very relevant to me, and often, between you and this community, I find very interesting and challenging perspectives on issues that I care about.

I agree with Mox - I see so many business plans with slick user interfaces and supposedly novel ways to capture some demographic that "nobody else is addressing". But nothing can substitute for passion and shared interests, and that's what I (and I imagine many others) find here.

Now if we could just get Jerry back to blogging again ...

Hi Fred,

nice to see myself in the list... actually, I´ve been slacking a bit in the last months. Too much work and too little commenting :(

Anyway, just to update it: I moved from Brazil to Singapore at the end of December, now managing APAC for ARENAmobile. Loving it... been travelling all the time, meeting interesting people, seeing fascinating places and, of course, closing deals :)

I´m so excited about it... after all, travelling and experiencing new things is what it´s all about, right?

Cheers,
Giordano

Wow - I won something!

Hey, does that adsense cash trickle down?

Thought not....

Anyway, gosh, I'm all a twitter, I guess I could use the valium that I think Simon wants to pass me.

Cool.....

Nice with the anonymous shutdown Fred, those kind should be taken out back.....

On with the celebration, bring me the finest meats and cheeses......

Hey Fred,
I'm the anonymous poster who requested your opinion on that NYTimes article. In retrospect, not sure why I posted anonymously - Sorry! :)

Thanks!

Thanks for providing the blog Fred, it's been great. Ground Zero for Web 2.0 as far as I'm concerned.
