To Dave

Though I am serious about the end of posting about age, I agree with Dave that the conversation it sparked is the beginning of something. It always is.

So yes, Dave of course I'd love to learn more about Hypercamp, Checkbox News, Podcast Player and Social Camera.

This whole dustup reminds me of the time Jackson insulted Ethan in the comments to my Free Music post and by the end of that flame war they were trading CDs of bands they've recorded.

Blogging is the adult Facebook and Dave's search for an open network will start in the blogs. It already has.

Been following this thread with interest - my personal take is that there's been an over-reaction to Fred's thesis - which is that web services entrepreneurs are young - duh!

Doesn't mean all entrepreneurs, nor does it mean the trend will continue.

And I'd argue with a quick point here: Facebook is becoming the adult Facebook. Fast. Especially if they get groups right (they haven't) and do more with RSS.

Coool. I was pretty sure that would be your response. How about we get together for a meal next time I'm in NY or you're in SF?

Hey Jackson, Rock isn't Dead, Records are Dead!

(At what point does this start to net me some good music from Jackson? I figure an equilibrium exists, insulting Cash might go to far I think?)

Ha!

What a soap opera!

Good times ;-)

I hope that that particular exchange was fully appreciated by all, because there's a TON of good information about the reality of music-making there.

[it must have been an age thing!]

[JUST KIDDING]

Jackson has some music from a studio-only project of his up on MySpace, it is VERY hip [mellow/sophisticated psych indie pop...if I may]. The engineering/mixing is also killing. I'm sure he will divulge the link if anyone asks him.

I too have been amused but interested in this subject. Really, I think the mistake (that isn't meant to be negative) was in using age as the common denominator. It is life risk and not age. Age factors in, because your life risk tends to increase with age - mainly due to financial commitments (read mortgage, car payments), family life, etc. I feel that it is these factors that usually come with age that tend to damper an entrepreneur more than anything. If you remove either finance or family from the equation, the conditions for entrepreneurship are sweetened. (And before I get lambasted, I am a father of a 22 month old and am 32.)

Does this mean I'm not able? Hell no. I've never been in the position I am mentally or in experience than I am now. I only need to cross the chasm - something most of us "aged" have trouble doing.

So, Fred is right. And he is correct that the youth is leading innovation. But, I don't think that is new. We're simply seeing faster shifts today than before.
