Webb Alert
If you liked Wallstrip, you might like this new short daily video show called Webb Alert.
My friend Rob Reid, who founded listen.com and brought us Rhapsody (thank god) is behind this and it features his wife Morgan.
UPDATE: I posted this in haste as we were running out to the beach. I saw the preview show from yesterday and thought that was what I was embedding. So I just saw the plug for my Set WSJ Free post and now realize it looks like I am plugging back. Well I wasn't but now I like the show even more! Also, I really like the seven second mid roll they are using. Very slick. That's a winning advertising model.

i believe that i've seen this concept before...it's called "the news". the only difference i see is that rather than get a quite from peter chernin on the News Corp acquisition of DJ, she pulls a quote from your blog. not sure that i'd consider that an improvement as much as i love your blog.
also, i was a little suprised to hear her say that she is already an on-air personality as I find her delivery to be a little pleading/whiny. i guess lindsay (who's a friend of mine from college btw) set the bar pretty high for on-air personalities, though.

Ok, its a news show. About news thats been reported everywhere already. I like the web TV concept (Like wallstrip) very much but if a high level of original content can't be achieved, what's the point? I think the arts people call this "Finding a voice". 2nd comment; Talking heads is cheap to do and it looks it. Lindsay's appeal isn't only that she's attractive, its that the show tries to find original ways to tell us things that are already known (Starbucks and Apple aren't exactly new stories). Wallstrip seems to have real filmmakers involved not just a host, a camera and a green screen. 3rd comment; It didn't play well and kept cutting off every 20 seconds. Good luck with the venture, love the concept. The execution needs more, More, MORE.

What's with the ending an interrogative with a period.

I would love to do something like that for laptops. Not the most exciting topic on earth, but I think it would have a loyal following - especially if delivered by an appropriately attractive girl. :) I think she did a good job - some strange facial expression, I guess, but that keeps it interesting...

I read blogs so I don't have watch bad katie couric wannabes read day old content. She is cute, but doubt anyone would fund her written blog.

One of the founders from Castfire, the platform that WebbAlert is using to publish their video. I detailed some of the features that we released with the launch of the show: http://www.castfire.com/blog/2007/08/02/welcome-webbalert/. The midroll is automatically rotated between 5 different segments for all of the different file formats they publish.

This is really quite sad, Fred--why bother to mention it? I could not believe the amateurish--and not even funny--level of this show, which is obviosly put together by some folks who know folks. At least Rocketboom was a small bunch of smart people in a teeny apartment in NYC--not some slick crap masquerading as populist media.

I guess this is what happens when older men marry younger women... they have to get venture capital to fund their WEB 2.0 news venture. Yep. This whole venture skieves me out... a lot.
